FAQ
Understanding Erisian
What is a dialectic?
A dialectic is a way of understanding something by examining the tension between competing positions rather than immediately resolving them into a single answer.
Erisian does that at scale.
Does Erisian tell me what to think?
No.
Erisian does not tell you which position is right, which side to believe or what decision to make. Judgment stays with the user.
Is this forecasting?
No.
Erisian sits upstream of forecasting, scenario planning, strategy, policy design, negotiation and capital allocation.
Why not just use ChatGPT or another general AI tool?
Because a general LLM ultimately synthesizes.
It has to select, prioritize, interpret and aggregate information into an answer. That process collapses competing ways of understanding an issue into a particular representation and can erase the disagreement, outliers and assumptions that matter most.
Erisian is built to keep those differences available for comparison.
Is this just an AI hallucination problem?
No.
Hallucination is factual error. The deeper problem exists even when every fact is correct.
An answer can be factually accurate while still presenting only one framing of reality. That framing affects what is emphasized, what disappears and which conclusions appear reasonable.
Do I chat with Erisian?
No. Deliberately.
A chat interface is designed to return an answer. Erisian is designed for exploration and comparison.
Evidence & Coverage
Can I see the evidence behind the analysis?
Yes.
Erisian’s analysis is traceable to its underlying sources. You can examine the evidence behind what you are seeing rather than being asked to accept an opaque conclusion.
How are sources selected?
They are vetted for quality and relevance.
We do not exclude a legitimate source because we disagree with its politics, worldview or agenda. If it is credible and relevant to the landscape, it belongs in the analysis.
What if an important perspective is missing?
Challenge the map.
Erisian is built to be challenged because contested issues do not resolve into final answers.
If a legitimate perspective is missing, we want it in. New perspectives, sources and fault lines change the picture. Erisian actively invites people to identify what is missing. We will publish public fault-line reports with open calls for challenge.
A realistic representation of a complex system must be contestable. Ours is.
The point is not to protect the analysis from challenge. The challenge is the analysis.
Is Erisian global?
Yes.
Erisian works across geographies and organizations. Analysis is conducted in the language of the original source. The platform itself is currently in English.
How current is the intelligence?
Erisian is continuously refreshed rather than operating as a static report.
It is designed to let users follow how positions and narratives change over time.
How far back does the analysis go?
It depends on the issue and the published record.
Where the source material exists, Erisian can examine change over long periods of time, including historical material extending back decades.
Your Information & Priorities
Do we need to give Erisian our data?
No.
Erisian does not require proprietary client data to work.
Can users add their own information or sources?
Yes.
Erisian does not require client data to function, but users can add their own sources, information and context so the analysis reflects the specific circumstances, constraints and parameters of the decision they are examining.
Organizations that want to keep the environment closed can disable that functionality.
Can Erisian be adapted around our priorities?
Yes.
Coverage can be deepened around the issues, geographies, organizations and sources that matter to a client.
Using Erisian
Is Erisian usable today?
Yes. Erisian is live and currently in limited release.
Does Erisian require a major implementation project?
No.
Once access is approved, users can begin using the platform directly. Walkthroughs and onboarding are available where useful.
How private is my activity?
User activity is private at the individual account level.
Erisian is designed for sensitive decision environments and does not require users to provide proprietary information in order to use the core platform.
Does Erisian have applications in defence?
Yes, but it is not a weapons, targeting or warfighting system.
Its relevance is upstream: understanding actors, assumptions, narratives, strategic conditions and the different ways parties understand the same conflict.
